We believe standing behind our work should be straightforward.
If our workmanship causes a problem, we'll take responsibility for it. If a material we supplied is defective, we'll stand behind the material. If the problem was caused by something unrelated to our work, we'll explain what we found and what your options are.
The details below explain how our warranty works.
Standard Coverage
Standard Plumbing Service
Unless we provide different warranty terms for a particular job:
Against defects unless different terms were expressly provided for the item or job.
Workmanship — 90 days
Our standard plumbing service work includes a 90-day workmanship warranty beginning when the work is completed.
If something we did was performed improperly and causes a failure during that period, we'll correct our workmanship at no charge. That includes the reasonable labor, materials, diagnosis, and travel necessary to make the correction.
The warranty applies to the work we performed—not the entire plumbing system simply because we worked on part of it.
Materials — minimum 1 year
Materials, fixtures, and equipment supplied by Cornerpost Plumbing include a minimum one-year warranty against defects unless different terms were provided for that particular item or job.
If a covered material is defective, we'll procure a suitable replacement. The replacement material and other plumbing materials reasonably necessary to make the replacement are provided without a material charge.
Labor and travel are not included in a material-only warranty.
Cornerpost Plumbing did not manufacture the defective product, so the customer remains responsible for the labor, diagnosis, travel or mileage, removal, installation, and testing required to replace it.
If the material failed because we installed it improperly, that's a workmanship issue—not simply a defective-material claim—and the workmanship warranty applies.
Materials
Materials We Supply and Materials You Supply
Our material warranty applies to products furnished by Cornerpost Plumbing.
It doesn't matter who chose the product. If you select a faucet and Cornerpost purchases and supplies it as part of the job, it is a Cornerpost-supplied material and receives our applicable material warranty.
If you, a general contractor, property owner, or another party purchase the product and provide it to us for installation, we do not provide a warranty on the product itself.
We still stand behind our workmanship when installing customer-supplied materials.
We may decline to install a product that we reasonably believe is damaged, incomplete, incompatible, unsafe, or unsuitable for the intended application.
Product Coverage
Manufacturer Warranties
Some products have manufacturer warranties that last longer than Cornerpost Plumbing's one-year material warranty.
Those warranties continue according to the manufacturer's actual terms.
We are responsible for installing products we furnish according to applicable professional standards and applicable manufacturer installation requirements. If our failure to follow an applicable installation requirement causes a problem or causes the manufacturer to deny coverage, we do not use that denial to avoid responsibility for our own workmanship.
For example, a water heater may have a multi-year warranty on its tank. That doesn't necessarily mean every valve, control, connector, accessory, or other component has the same warranty.
A longer manufacturer warranty also does not extend Cornerpost Plumbing's workmanship warranty or automatically include Cornerpost labor, travel, diagnosis, removal, or installation unless the manufacturer specifically provides that coverage.
We will always distinguish between Cornerpost's warranty and the manufacturer's warranty so you know what coverage actually applies.
Existing Conditions
Existing Plumbing and Things Outside Our Control
Working on one part of your plumbing system doesn't make Cornerpost Plumbing responsible for every existing component connected to it.
We don't warrant existing plumbing, fixtures, equipment, or materials merely because we worked on or connected to them. We are, however, responsible for damage we cause and for failures caused by our covered workmanship.
We also cannot warrant against an unknown pre-existing condition that was concealed and could not reasonably have been identified when the original work was performed. If a concealed condition becomes known, we'll explain what we found and use professional judgment to recommend an appropriate correction.
If we see an existing condition that may create a problem with the work we're proposing, we'll use our professional judgment to explain it and recommend an appropriate correction.
If you decline a documented recommendation, that does not cancel your warranty. It only affects a later claim if the condition we identified actually caused or materially contributed to the failure.
The same principle applies to outside causes.
Freezing, improper water pressure, water quality, sediment, scale, corrosion, electrical problems, roots, ground or structural movement, pests, weather, flooding, misuse, neglect, and similar conditions do not automatically void your warranty.
What matters is what caused the failure.
If an outside condition caused or materially contributed to the problem, that particular failure isn't covered by Cornerpost's warranty. An unrelated warranty claim remains covered.
Care and Other Work
Maintenance, Operating Instructions, and Work by Others
Not performing maintenance does not automatically void your Cornerpost warranty.
If required maintenance was reasonably necessary and failing to perform it caused or materially contributed to the failure, the resulting problem may not be covered.
Manufacturer warranties may have their own maintenance requirements, and those requirements govern the manufacturer's coverage.
We don't require you to purchase maintenance from Cornerpost Plumbing merely to keep our warranty unless professional service is legitimately required by the product or applicable warranty terms.
If Cornerpost Plumbing or the manufacturer provides a meaningful operating instruction that is necessary to prevent damage, a failure caused or materially contributed to by not following that instruction may not be covered. An unrelated failure remains covered.
The same causation rule applies if another plumber, contractor, or property owner works on the system.
Having someone else work on or near our work does not automatically void our warranty.
If their work causes or materially contributes to a failure, Cornerpost isn't responsible for that failure. Their unrelated work doesn't eliminate our warranty on work they didn't affect.
For a valid material-only warranty claim, you are not required to purchase Cornerpost labor merely to receive replacement material to which you're otherwise entitled. If another contractor performs the replacement, however, Cornerpost does not warrant their workmanship or assume responsibility for damage they cause.
Service-Specific Terms
Special Types of Service
Drain Cleaning
Drain-cleaning services do not include a continuing warranty that a drain or sewer will remain open.
We will perform the agreed drain cleaning professionally and verify drainage to the extent reasonably possible when the work is completed. We cannot control pipe condition, roots, grease, scale, foreign material, damaged piping, future use, or what enters the drainage system afterward.
No continuing drain warranty does not mean we ignore poor work. If we determine that our original drain-cleaning service was not adequately performed, we'll address that appropriately.
Diagnostic Service
A diagnosis without a repair does not create a repair warranty.
Our diagnosis is a professional assessment based on the conditions and information reasonably available at the time. It cannot guarantee that no concealed, intermittent, or unrelated problem exists.
We remain responsible for performing diagnostic work competently.
Maintenance and Service
When we service existing equipment, our 90-day workmanship warranty applies to the maintenance or service work we actually perform.
Servicing an existing water heater, boiler, fixture, or other equipment does not create a warranty on the equipment's overall condition, continued operation, or remaining life.
If we damage something or our workmanship causes the failure, that's different—we remain responsible for our work.
Temporary Repairs
When a repair is intended to be temporary, we'll identify it as temporary when the work is performed. We won't call a failed permanent repair “temporary” after the fact.
Temporary repairs are billable unless we expressly state otherwise. They are intended to stabilize a condition or restore service while a permanent solution is arranged.
When we're responsible for returning to perform the permanent correction, we will ordinarily seek to complete or schedule it within 14 calendar days. Parts availability, weather, access, scheduling, customer authorization, or other circumstances can sometimes prevent completion within that period.
If the customer postpones the work, declines it, doesn't provide access, or we cannot obtain a response, Cornerpost isn't indefinitely responsible for maintaining a temporary repair.
Any warranty specifically provided for temporary work will be documented with that work.
When Something Fails
If Something We Installed Fails
We determine warranty coverage based on why it failed, not simply on the fact that a failure occurred.
Covered workmanship
If the problem is our workmanship, we correct the covered workmanship at no charge during the applicable workmanship-warranty period.
Covered material-only failure
If the problem is a defective Cornerpost-supplied material, we provide the covered replacement material and reasonably necessary associated plumbing materials without material charge. Labor, diagnosis, travel, removal, installation, and testing remain chargeable for a material-only claim.
Both workmanship and material
If both defective material and covered workmanship are involved, the work necessary to correct our covered workmanship is handled under the workmanship warranty.
Not covered
If the problem was caused by an existing condition, outside cause, another person's work, misuse, or another noncovered condition, normal service charges apply.
Replacement Parts Get Their Own Warranty
Replacing a defective part doesn't use up the warranty on the new part.
A replacement material furnished by Cornerpost under our warranty receives a new applicable material-warranty period beginning when it is installed or furnished.
Corrective workmanship performed under our workmanship warranty receives a new 90-day workmanship warranty on that corrective work.
If the same type of product repeatedly fails and we determine that another suitable product is a better solution, Cornerpost may supply a different product. If we choose a more expensive replacement to properly resolve a valid material-warranty claim, we won't charge you the difference in material cost simply because we selected the better alternative.
Making It Right
Access, Restoration, and Property Damage
Standing behind a covered repair sometimes means getting to plumbing hidden behind a wall, ceiling, floor, or other finished surface.
When reasonable access is necessary for Cornerpost to correct covered workmanship or replace a covered warranted material, Cornerpost accepts responsibility for the access reasonably necessary to perform that correction.
We also accept responsibility for reasonable restoration of the area that had to be disturbed for that access. Depending on the work, restoration may be performed by Cornerpost or an appropriate subcontractor or other trade we arrange.
That doesn't include unrelated remodeling or upgrades. In some situations, an appropriate permanent access panel may be a better restoration solution than closing the area permanently. We'll discuss that with you when it materially changes the appearance or use of the area.
If you independently hire another contractor to perform a material-warranty replacement, that contractor cannot create an access or restoration expense on Cornerpost's behalf without our prior authorization or arrangement.
If a valid warrantable failure for which Cornerpost is legally responsible causes direct property damage, Cornerpost accepts responsibility for that damage. Depending on the circumstances, restoration may be handled directly or through applicable insurance.
Warranty Concerns
If You Think You Have a Warranty Problem
Contact Cornerpost Plumbing through our normal service channels and tell us what's happening.
You don't need to find an old invoice for us if we can identify the work in our records. We'll look there first. If we can't readily locate it, we may ask for information such as the property address, approximate service date, prior owner's name, or whatever information you have that can help identify the work.
A reported problem is treated as a potential warranty claim until we've had a reasonable opportunity to determine what caused it.
Potential warranty concerns receive priority based on their severity.
If water is running or another condition is actively causing or threatening significant property damage, our first priority is to make reasonable efforts to stop or limit the continuing damage. That may mean shutting off or isolating water, shutting equipment down, or making a temporary repair before the permanent correction can be completed.
We won't create another emergency by abandoning critical work already underway—for example, leaving another customer's home without water in the middle of a repipe—but potential warranty concerns receive priority over ordinary nonurgent scheduling within reason.
We don't promise a fixed response time that circumstances may make impossible. We do promise to treat potential warranty concerns seriously and with appropriate priority.
Before diagnostic or service work begins, we'll let you know when labor, diagnostic, or travel charges may apply depending on what we find.
Once we've evaluated the problem, we'll explain what appears to have caused it, whether the Cornerpost warranty applies, and what happens next.
Bid and Proposal Work
Larger Projects and Job-Specific Warranties
The standard 90-day workmanship warranty is intended primarily for ordinary plumbing service and repair work.
Larger bid or proposal work—such as substantial repiping, sewer replacement, major system installation, remodel work, or new construction—may have warranty terms specifically established for that project.
Those terms will be documented with the proposal, contract, or authorization.
If we don't expressly provide different terms, the standard Cornerpost warranty remains the default.
We won't shorten warranty coverage after you've already authorized the work.
Property Ownership
The Warranty Stays With the Property
Cornerpost's remaining warranty follows the property where the work was performed.
Selling or purchasing the property doesn't end the remaining Cornerpost warranty, and it doesn't restart the warranty period.
Manufacturer warranties may have different transfer requirements, so manufacturer coverage remains subject to the manufacturer's terms.
Our Standard
What standing behind our work means.
This warranty is meant to explain what we'll stand behind—not to create technical reasons to avoid legitimate responsibility.
We evaluate warranty concerns based on the work we performed, the materials we furnished, the conditions involved, and what actually caused the failure.
If our workmanship caused the problem, we'll stand behind our workmanship.
If a material we supplied is defective, we'll stand behind the material.
If something else caused the problem, we'll explain what we found and what your options are.
Cornerpost Plumbing's express warranty does not eliminate rights or remedies that applicable Nebraska or federal law does not permit us to limit.
This is Cornerpost Plumbing's customer-facing Limited Warranty. Project-specific written warranty terms, when applicable, control for the work they specifically address.
